Christmas Shopping Party at Alfies Antique Market

Two weeks from today Alfies will be opening its doors until 9pm for its annual Late Night Shopping Event. The after-hours shopping party has become legendary for its entertainment, cocktails and canapés and is a fantastic way to shop for rare and beautiful Christmas gifts.

This year you can enjoy vintage inspired music from The Haywood Sisters and complimentary canapés and drinks from the Roof Top Kitchen while you browse. You will also be able to suss out what lies ahead in 2016 with forecasts from our in-house tarot card reader and, this year, for those who arrive between 5pm and 6pm there will be a special raffle draw with a range of gift vouchers available to win, from £20-£100.

Music: Sets at 6pm, 7pm and 8pm

Tarot Card Reading: Based in unit S002-04. Use the sign up sheet on the door to select a time slot

Raffle: Arrive between 5pm and 6pm and the doorman will give you a raffle ticket for our 7.30pm prize draw. Winners will be announced at the end of The Haywood Sisters' 7pm set, in the jewellery corner on the ground floor.

Bar: Drinks stations will be located on the first and second floors.

Summer Olympics: Rio 2016

The games of the XXXI Olympiad were awarded to Rio in 2009, which will be the first South American city to ever host the summer games. The Olympic games kick off today and will run until 21 August. 306 gold medals will be given to athletes competing in more than 40 events.

Keeping the Olympics in mind, we took a look around Alfies and came across a selection of sporty themed items.

Handmade by You & Make, Thrift London - Competition!

As we all know January can be a long and dreary month. The over indulgence of food/drink and irregular sleeping patterns during Christmas and New Year usually takes its toll in January and puts us in a slumber.

So what perfect way to start the New Year than to get creative and learn some useful skills along the way. A new series of workshops called ‘Thrifty Makes’ from Make, Thrift London will be on throughout January at the Handmade by You studios at Alfies. You can learn to how to;

• Upcycle a tote bag - 14th January, 6.30-8.30pm
• Upcycle collar clips from wine corks - 16th January, 6.30-8.30pm
• Make easy clothes alterations - 21st January, 6.30-9.00pm
• Make your own thrifty wrap and stationary - 23rd January, 6.30-8.30pm
• Dye your own ombre tights - 28th January, 6.30-8.30pm
• Make a teacup scented candle - 30th January, 6.30-8.30pm

Make sure you are quick to book as there are a limited number of early bird places at just £10! Do not fret if you miss out on the early bird offer as these workshops are not only thrifty by name, but thrifty by nature as you can still take part for the princely sum of £15 (usually £28!).

Alfies Fan Club Competition

To celebrate Alfies 35th anniversary, we invite you to send us your best, favourite and most exciting photos of Alfies! This could be anything from your favourite antique shop at Alfies, your most loved purchase, an item you wish for, your favourite antique dealer, or even the maze like building, the view from the rooftop terrace or the Art Deco architecture!

You have up until the 31st July 2011 to enter and the winners will receive a complementary hair do from Nina's Hair Parlour, an Alfies gift voucher, an ‘Antiques are Green’ canvas bag specially designed by illustrator Susan Taylor, and a pretty vintage teacup from W&L Antiques.

To enter either post your photos (a maximum of 5 photos per person) on our specially created Flickr group or email them directly to us. You need to add a brief description of what your photo is all about and why you love Alfies.

Canvas Bag Design Competition

Alfies Antique Market is experiencing a green revolution! Alongside the campaign Antiques are Green, Alfies is setting the standard of promoting vintage and antiques as an ethical way to shop by running a competition for illustrators and designers to create limited edition canvas bags.

Buying antiques and vintage celebrates traditional craftsmanship and quality of design as well as keeping ahead of the game in the style stakes;

“Buying antiques is the perfect way to recycle; unique objects are re-used and their histories are carried on, preserving their authenticity for future generations.” Pia Tohveri, General Manager of Alfies Antique Market.

Vintage items are timely, their individuality ignites people to look for quality pieces and this is the perfect way to create and exhibit your own style.

Alfies is running a competition for illustrators and designers to come up with an iconic design to be printed onto 200 limited edition canvas bags. Alfies has teamed up with Bag It Don’t Bin It who supply printed canvas bags using eco-friendly inks and sustainable materials. The bags will be on sale at Alfies from the 16th November to coincide with National Antiques Week and the winning design and runners up will be exhibited in an exhibition in the Rooftop Restaurant at Alfies.
